August Alborn, the specialist for heavy goods transports from Dortmund, had their hands full with making reliable deliveries of gigantic loads in the industrial heart of the Ruhr Region. However, by simply slapping a warning sign on to the top of the roof of their Mercedes-Benz 180, the company prepared a convenient escort vehicle that allowed them to clear a lane while keeping traffic flowing safely. With the 180 series of limousines, Mercedes-Benz rang in a new era for the Ponton body back then. Unlike its predecessor, the new body looked like it was “crafted seamlessly from a single piece”.
